Sales of single serve Keurig coffee makers and K-Cups have been going through the roof since 2011. As a result, so has the waste they create. Only about 5% of the “coffee pods” are recyclable or biodegradable, and people go through them like crazy. Particularly since you sometimes need to use two to get a full cup of coffee that isn’t watered down.
As of last 2013, 13% of coffee drinkers used Keurig machine once a a day, and even with such a small percentage using them, the amount of Keurig coffee pods thrown away could have encircled the entire globe ten times. That is a lot of coffee. And a lot of plastic. READ MORE
